“Forsyth Central High School – Team OTTO #1746
The team is participating in their first competition of the season this weekend in Columbus, GA. Should be an exciting weekend!
The event will have a live stream for you to view on your computer. Follow us on Twitter for the link to the live stream. Look for our team number “1746” to be announced with a lot of fanfare. Estimated match times will be updated on our Twitter feed.
Quick competition overview
Today (11:00-7:00) and the first half of tomorrow (9:30-12:30) are comprised of qualification matches. Six teams play at once, during a single match. During each match, there will be a red and a blue alliance. Three teams will be assigned to red and three teams to blue. Members of the same alliance cooperate as a team, but only for the current match. Each team will partner randomly (pre-determined by game officials) with other teams during different matches. The goal is to gain as many points as possible. Don’t get confused as the day goes on – sometimes we will be on the red alliance, other times on the blue.
Check out this cool video the game organizers put together. It describes the game play really well. (AND YES – the high school students you sponsor build robots to do all this!)
At the end of the match, each team on an alliance earns the points that their alliance earned. Over the course of the day, team’s points add up. Points from the qualification matches seed each team. The higher your points, the more likely you are to make it to the finals.
Tomorrow, Saturday, starting at 2:00, will be the matches where robots compete to win it all. While today is exciting, tomorrow will be even more so. Only the best of the best make it to the finals. And TEAM OTTO is working very hard to be there! So cheer us on! GO TEAM OTTO!
